Sidewalk at National Harbor, Prince George County, MD

Date and Time:

June 24, 2017 at 3:00pm

Water Locale:

Potomac River/Chesapeake Watershed

Choreographer(s):

Shanna Lim is a mother, dancer, choreographer, body-painter, and all-around interested-in-everything person.
Gretchen Dunn, also a mother, is a dancer, bead collector, and contact improvisor. She is also happy to have been part of the group that first conceived of Global Water Dances. When a child, she wanted to be a garbage collector.

History of Site and Related Water Issues:

National Harbor is a large hotel/casino/restaurant venue on the Potomac River. The site was chosen because of the broad mix of people there–tourists as well as locals. Water issues surrounding the Chesapeake Watershed include chemical runoff pollution and its concomitant poisoning, paving over permeable ground, and trash thrown in the water.

Music:

We are using contemporary music from Hungary and the composed music provided by Global Water Dances.

The Performance:

Choreographed and performed by Shanna Lim and Gretchen Dunn.

Environmental Impact:

With the current diminishing of the Environmental Protection Agency, the cutting of funds for ecologically fragile areas, like the Chesapeake, it is more important than ever for people to know how their actions impact these areas and how to protect them/improve them through their own human action.

Directions to the Site of Performance:

Take the 495 Beltway to exit 2A, follow signs to National Harbor. After parking, go down to the head of the pier that leads to the Capitol Wheel and turn left. The performance will be about 50 yards further along on the wide sidewalk.

How can I get involved?

At the performance it would be nice to have someone to guide the camera, help with the music.
Audience is always wonderful!
