History of site and related water issues
Santa Barbara’s oceans are threatened by urban runoff, the number one source of pollution to our waterways and marine habitats in southern CA. There are educational and monitoring programs to help educate the public. A separate but related issue here is water conservation… water water everywhere, but… The past two winters with low rainfall means that we are seeing stretches of our local creeks and rivers drying up earlier than we’ve seen in years.
The Music
The sound of the ocean, and a Tibetan bowl.
The Performance
A Line in the Sand – a movement ritual for the ocean. A simple score was taught to participants who gathered at 3:30pm. We performed the piece at 5:30pm.
Directions to site of the performance
Summerland exit off of 101. Turn toward the ocean, go under railway tracks, park in the lot. Walk down the beach, to the left, where we will gather. (about 5 min walk)
