History of site and related water issues
The sacred spring named by the Tohunga Taikehu. The rituals of dedication for the ocean voyaging waka Tainui and the arrival of her crew in a new land. Named after Raiatea (north of Tahiti) from whence they had journeyed. Polluted since the arrival of Europeans, it is still regularly poisoned by the discharges of suburban indifference and industrial waste.
