History of site and related water issues
Our site is a part of Dashanzi in the Chaoyang District of Beijing, which houses a thriving artistic community, among 50-year old decommissioned military factory buildings of unique architectural style. It is often compared with New York’s Greenwich Village or SoHo. We chose to perform here because there is a mix of artistic forms, like painting, sculpture, photography, etc. Water issues cause troubles here.
The Music
Chinese classical music, describing mountains and rivers in the north of China.
The Performance
Last year, our teacher Jia Ma led us to do this performance that is really positive and powerful. Water issues are a big problem for our earth. This year Jia Ma has gone to the USA, and we continue the performance, using our dance to publicize and protect the environment, conserving precious water resources.
Directions to site of the performance
The area is often called the 798 Art District or Factory 798 although technically, Factory #798 is only one of several structures within a complex formerly known as Joint Factory 718.The buildings are located inside alleys number 2 and 4 on Jiuxianqiáo Lù , south of the Dàshanziqiáo flyover .
