Hemlock Lake
History
Hemlock Lake has a precious and important history. It is a small western Finger Lake that was initially the site of much Native American and early settler activity, later to be a resort community, and finally to be a protected water source. Now, the lake and its surrounding lands are owned by the State of New York-DEC with strict limits on water access and watershed usage. It is a haven for hikers (who enjoy discovering the foundations of old cottages), paddlers and fisherman; a special local treasure.

The Performance
Featuring movement choir and dancing by the Avon Central School Environmental Studies class:
We carried pickle buckets on our heads to honor the woman who forgo education to carry water to their villages. We chose to put water back into the reservoir as a way of filling back up what we have depleted. We pooled into schools of fish, making our way down the hillside, representing different aspects of the water community… Even my grandparents danced. Multiple generations recognizing what it is that keeps all of us alive.
